Imagine a world where high-performance materials don’t come at the expense of our planet. For 80 years, DSC® has been turning this vision into reality, pioneering foam innovation that’s as kind to the Earth as it is to athletes. But here’s where it gets controversial: can a company truly balance elite performance with sustainability? DSC® says yes, and they’re celebrating eight decades of proving it.
As a global leader in high-performance foam technology, DSC® is wrapping up its 80th anniversary by honoring the people who’ve made it all possible—their employees worldwide. Since 1945, these dedicated teams have been at the heart of DSC’s mission: to create materials that push the boundaries of performance while minimizing environmental impact. From design to delivery, every step is a stride toward sustainability.
‘Our employees have sparked a revolution,’ says Mei-Fen Wei, Chief Operating Officer of DSC®. ‘They’ve not only created solutions for elite performance and comfort but have also championed innovations that protect our planet. At DSC, we’re committed to our people, performance, and the planet—and that’s what drives us every day.’
But this is the part most people miss: DSC’s sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a framework called Run the Relay. This initiative emphasizes that sustainability is a continuous, collaborative effort across employees, supply chain partners, and manufacturing teams globally. It’s all part of DSC’s zero-carbon, zero-waste mission—a bold goal that’s reshaping the industry.
To support this mission, DSC has expanded its local-for-local manufacturing model, reducing transportation footprints while delivering premium products with agility and speed. And here’s a fun fact: their Green Box program, launched in 2017, uses reusable, waterproof boxes made from recycled PE material. Each box can be reused up to 17 times, saving the equivalent of 68 trees, diverting 1.4 tons of waste from landfills, and avoiding 281 kg of carbon emissions annually for every 1,000 boxes used. Is this the future of sustainable packaging? We think it’s a step in the right direction.
On the innovation front, DSC’s DREAMCELL® VELO is a game-changer. Launched at The Materials Show, this next-generation direct-poured PU insole technology delivers explosive athletic performance and long-lasting rebound—all with near-zero production waste. And let’s not forget DURAPONTEX® L-TAC, a proprietary foam process that molds at just 120°C, slashing energy use and carbon emissions by up to 50%. But is this enough? Can we ever truly achieve sustainability in manufacturing?
As DSC® looks to the next 80 years, it remains steadfast in its commitment to people, performance, and the planet. By advancing materials that provide comfort without compromising the environment, DSC continues to set new industry standards. What do you think?
