A rare occurrence in the NBA world has left fans and players alike scratching their heads. The highly anticipated Miami Heat-Chicago Bulls game, originally scheduled for last week, was postponed due to an unusual culprit: condensation on the court!
You might be wondering, how does condensation even happen indoors? Well, get this - the United Center in Chicago experienced abnormally warm temperatures, both inside and out. The indoor humidity was off the charts, almost double the typical rate for an NBA game. Meanwhile, outdoor temperatures in Chicago were unusually high, reaching a balmy 55 degrees at 8 p.m.!
But here's where it gets controversial... the high humidity caused the ice rink, hidden beneath the basketball court for Chicago Blackhawks games, to start melting along the edges. Arena workers valiantly attempted to wipe away the moisture, but after multiple delays, the game was ultimately postponed about 25 minutes after the scheduled tip-off time.
This is a first in NBA history! The last time a regular-season game was rescheduled due to slippery conditions was way back in 2017, during a Minnesota Timberwolves home game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The rescheduled game will now take place on January 29th at 8 p.m. ET. Chicago and Miami, originally set to face off in Miami on January 30th, will now play on January 31st at the same time.
The Heat and Bulls currently sit at eighth and tenth place, respectively, in the Eastern Conference standings.
