Powerball’s estimated jackpot climbed to $1.25 billion after no one matched the grand-prize numbers in Monday night’s drawing, which carried an approximate value of $1.14 billion.

Powerball’s top prize rose to about $1.25 billion after no ticket matched all five white balls and the Powerball in the most recent drawing, leaving the grand prize unresolved.
The drawing yielded these winning numbers: 23, 35, 59, 63 and 68, with a Powerball of 2.
This latest figure stands as the sixth-largest Powerball jackpot on record, and it marks the second time this year the prize has surpassed the $1 billion mark.
To claim the grand prize, a winning ticket must match the five white balls plus the red Powerball. Winners can choose between an annuity that pays the full estimated $1.14 billion over time or an upfront lump-sum payment of about $503.4 million, both before taxes.
There was no immediate confirmation of any Monday jackpot winners.
Powerball tickets cost $2 each and are sold in 45 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Even though the grand prize remained unresolved over the weekend, five tickets won $1 million by matching all five white balls, and two additional tickets earned $2 million each by matching five white balls while adding the Power Play option for an extra $1.
Earlier this year, September saw a record-breaking $1.787 billion Powerball jackpot shared by two tickets purchased in Missouri and Texas.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are extremely slim, a reality that has grown starker since a game redesign about a decade ago.
In 2015, the Powerball configuration changed: the number of white balls increased from 59 to 69, while the red Powerball pool decreased from 35 to 26. The Multi-State Lottery Association notes that these changes widened the jackpot odds from roughly 1 in 175.2 million to about 1 in 292.2 million, though the overall chance of winning any prize improved—from about 1 in 31.85 to roughly 1 in 24.9.
